Fern Medical Supplies was founded in 2021, by Dr. Hannah McHugh, PT, DPT, CCS, GCS, CLT, a Doctor of Physical Therapy who is dual board-certified in Cardiopulmonary and Geriatric Physical Therapy. Alongside her Lymphedema Therapy Colleagues, Dr. McHugh saw firsthand the frustrating gaps in the medical equipment industry—where national durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers provided ill-fitting, overpriced compression garments that didn’t truly meet patient needs. Determined to create a better solution, she founded Fern Medical Supplies to offer compression garments that actually fit at significantly more affordable prices.
In January 2024, with the establishment of the Lymphedema Treatment Act (LTA), Fern Medical Supplies became credentialed with Medicare and most major insurance companies. This move was critical in preventing DMEs from prioritizing profits over patients—sending the wrong, often cheaper, garments instead of what was actually needed.
Beyond compression garments, Fern Medical Supplies also offers pneumatic compression pumps at fair prices—without the unnecessary, flamboyant bells and whistles that make them difficult to use and cost patients significantly more out of pocket. Many pumps on the market are overcomplicated, leading to frustration, improper use, and hefty price tags that insurance doesn’t fully cover. Fern ensures that patients get straightforward, effective pumps that are easy to manage, actually improve their condition, and don’t leave them with unexpected financial burdens.
Today, Dr. McHugh works closely with Certified Lymphedema Therapists (CLTs), physicians, and advanced practice providers (APPs) to ensure patients receive the right garments and pumps, with accuracy, transparency, and timeliness.
